The mission of Books for Budding Brains is to collect and distribute new or gently-used books to needy Siouxland children.

We want, however, to deliver more than just a book: we want to offer a message of hope. We want to show our children that the capacity of their minds is not limited by economic situation and that sometimes, in fact, the best way out of a bad economic situation is to develop their brains through reading.

2012 Results

Reading in 2012Thank you Siouxland for donating 3,000 books this year. The number of books you donate continues to be exceptional!

A special honor occurred on May 22nd. South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard declared Books for Budding Brains day! The First Lady of South Dakota was on-hand to present the proclamation and to read to kids at the North Sioux City Library.

We partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters in July for a night at the Sioux City Explorers ballpark. Every kid in attendance got free books, courtesy of Books for Budding Brains. We also had fun at the end of school carnival at Liberty Elementary. We distributed about 300 books that day and gave the kids something to read during summer break.

Keep checking back, and keep up with us on our Facebook page as we continue to collect and distribute books, to help kids in Siouxland!

2011 Results

Reading in 2011This year we collected and distributed 4000 books to Siouxland kids. We continue to be amazed at the generosity of everyone in Siouxland!

One of the events we loved this year was getting into schools reading to kids. They loved it, of course, but I think we might have loved it even more. It was a lot of fun and something we will expand in the coming years.

A special thanks to the Community Action Agency of Siouxland for distributing a majority of the books. Thanks also to our partner KMEG/KPTH for their continued support!
